Final Closure Design, Discovery Mine,
Initially involved with this partially reclaimed gold mine providing tailings cover performance monitoring input to the Environmental Monitoring Program, beginning in 2000. Following from that, provided comprehensive closure design and construction services, including the following technical issues: Permafrost degradation and reclamation strategy for borrow pit constructed in degrading permafrost. Risk assessment and options analyses were undertaken to scope potential options for remediation. Long-term performance of a previously-constructed tailings cover and remediation measures implementation. Crown pillar investigation and stability assessment. Investigation and design of concrete seals for selected mine openings. This closure team won a local award for the preparation of this closure plan, based on the comments of
